How To Select The Type Of Electronic R&D Engineers And How To Purchase Components, Under The Situation Of Shortage In 2021

2021 is the most unusual year, electronic components supply chain stock has is not only affect a few enterprises, such as the United States enterprise entity list, or is a perennial is the supplier do not take don’t walk quantity of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises, but the industry (automotive, industrial, consumer), the whole category (surrounding the main control chip, chip, resistance capacity), for a long period of time, out of stock (the original factory delivery some has to 2022), and for some reason (rised shortage of capacity or materials, or nuts). These characteristics of the big shortage event of electronic components in 2021 have made the bosses of manufacturing enterprises have a great headache. Many purchasing bosses have been looking for industry veterans consulting, international large factories out of stock are not to talk about, the domestic original factory replacement is not a good solution?

Is it better to find alternative materials for purchasing, or do engineers redesign and design a new scheme?

 

The XPCB newsroom reached out to several industry veterans to discuss this incredibly difficult topic. Recently a few of my old customers, all is can normal delivery products before, now can’t determine the delivery date, starts after half a month, factory workers are basically here, years ago order until now, said before the Spring Festival holiday, said starts after the others didn’t start, said after construction workers haven’t arrived, workers here now, already don’t know what to look for new excuse to deal with the customer. In fact, the core reason is out of stock, upstream prices can not deliver.

In fact, if customers can find a new PCBA supplier, they will not be subjected to such “humiliation” for a long time.

 

Downstream is the situation is the money can not buy goods, the middle stream is not it? We saw the international original factory announced 30 weeks, 50 weeks of delivery, looking for their goods blocked the road, is it time to find the original factory of domestic components?  This topic, in fact, also really needs to study and discuss.

 

A senior research and development boss A, just received the customer looking for goods after the phone, impatiently with me analyzed some.

Now, there are only three ways:

First, keep the original factory abroad, drink the northwest wind to pad the stomach first. When the market is not short of stock, money in hand can still buy. There is a cycle to these shortages, but there is always an end. But he said it would be at least six months before he could see if there was an opportunity.

 

Second, find a domestic replacement. This is the most convenient way.

Domestic substitution in the scheme basically does not need to change the scheme, there is the original factory transcode, replace the direct replacement of the material number can solve the problem. However, this kind of domestic substitute material number has not been used on a large scale before, so I hope it will not cause any unfathomable problems. Relatively speaking, the choice of the market to do a long time to replace the original factory will be more reliable. Now, these big factories are also out of stock, all of the domestic fabs can OEM products, everyone to buy goods, customers are crowded past, soon also out of stock. However, for a long time to do the domestic replacement of the original chip factory, the historic opportunity came but did not seize, which is not only the loss of the enterprise, but also the loss of the country.

 

Third, for most factories, the alternative is not far off. So is the redesign feasible? This is analyzed from several angles.

The redesign must be looking for a new cold model, otherwise, it will be out of stock. First, the cold model needs to be redeveloped and verified technically. It is not difficult to purchase and buy goods, and engineers are doing repeated development work, which the latter is not willing to do. In addition, product development, engineering verification, 3C, EMI/EMC certification, customer small batch verification to mass production acceptance, all the processes again, the cycle is very long. If there is no other way, the resistance will not be great.
