The Importance of Using PCB Conformal Coating for PCB Boards

Why is it so crucial that manufacturers use conformal coating for their PCB boards?  Here are three reasons why:

  1. The phenomenon of patina: Patina is also called patina. The most common and destructive cause of patina on PCB circuit boards is moisture. Therefore, if the PCB circuit board is kept in a humid environment for a long time, coupled with the action of oxygen and carbon dioxide, the copper on the PCB circuit board will have a chemical reaction to rust and produce patina, which will eventually cause the circuit board to fail to work properly. The solution is to use PCB three-proof paint or electric anti-glue.
  2. Leakage or short circuit:  Since no protective measures have been taken on the electrical circuit, after being piled with dust for a long time, because the dust is easy to absorb moisture, the damp dust will make the resistance smaller, resulting in partial leakage of the wire, causing the control circuit to fail to work normally if it is serious it can even catch fire. Therefore, the method to avoid product leakage or short circuit is to use PCB three-proof paint or electric anti-glue.
  3. Fingerprints or sweat: Every aspect of PCB board manufacturing requires manual operations, so the risk of contamination is great, especially sweaty hands. The components of sweat fingerprints contain moisture, inorganic salts, fatty oils, and even cosmetics and skincare. These components remain in the components, component pins, soldering wires, etc., plus the influence of the external environment, after a few months of use, the components of the circuit board will appear moldy, and the component pins will be corroded and broken. . To solve the harm caused by fingerprints, PCB three-proof paint or electric anti-glue is still used.

    Therefore, if the PCB board is not coated with conformal coating, and when it is returned to the market for processing, it will be repaired and reworked, or scrapped. The cost of losses will far exceed the cost of using conformal coating. Therefore, it is very crucial that manufacturers conformal coating for PCB boards.
